CYP on BBC News and Introducing our Coronavirus Emergency Appeal

As we all know, it is an unsettling time in the world at the moment with many people isolating at home. Unfortunately, for some young people this has lead to disastrous consequences as many are feeling displaced as they have lost their main social outlet and safe-space at CYP. Fortunately, our Outreach Workers have just been deemed ‘Key Workers’ and are going out every Tuesday and Friday evening to maintain contact with our members. We know that our members respond best to direct conversation from our trusted outreach workers. Our Outreach Workers will aim to enforce the government guidance, whilst addressing young people’s concerns and taking the time to have 1-1 chats offering support should other issues arise.

Project Director, Stephen Griffith also discussed this on a BBC News feature last week on our Outreach work. Stephen said “Those young people that perhaps have been involved in criminal activity or excluded from school – I’d be worried about that group. Because those young people aren’t on the social media platforms that many of the young people we work with are.”

This is why CYP have now launched our Coronavirus Emergency Appeal; we urgently need to raise £5,000 to support our new way of working. We’re proud to say that every year we help over 300 young people, and we would not be here today if it wasn’t for the kind and generous support from the public. Additionally, we have created an innovative online Youth Club filled with daily challenges in which young people can compete for prizes. Every day follows a different theme; last week the challenges were:

Monday – Baking Banana Bread
Tuesday – How Fast Can You Run?
Wednesday – Take a 30 Minute Break From Technology
Thursday – Create a Glitch Affect Drawing
Friday – TikTok Freeze Frame Challenge

An anonymous winner won our first ever baking challenge with these delicious flapjacks! See what you can do, and challenge yourself by visiting our Instagram.
