Spring has Sprung at CYP!

It has been a fantastic start to the football season here at CYP. The CYP U16’s boy’s football team has only just entered the new Coram’s League and has already won their first two games. The 8 a-side tournament is played in a league format and will go on to become a knock-out competition for the top four teams. This has provided a group of 10 boys the opportunity to play competitive Football every other week. Well done, boys!

The CYP Cooking Programme has been very popular amongst all CYP members as of late – with all young people (and youth workers!) alike getting involved in cooking up a storm in the kitchen. We’ve been very fortunate to have some funding to buy some new kitchen toys like a teppanyaki grill that came into its own on pancake day. The Girdlers’ Company – who fund the Cooking Programme – have invited CYP to a special prize-giving dinner. Four young people and two of our youth workers will attend the special event, where one young person will be given an award to recognise their talents and endeavours in cooking.

As part of the Government’s Kick Start programme, CYP regular Amarni Malone has successfully started a new job at nearby Havas KX. Havas is the creative hub for all things media-related in Kings Cross. The CYP Employability and Enterprise Youth Worker has supported Amarni in finding this placement and settling in. Amarni has always shown a flair for creativity at CYP and has said “I am enjoying the new role and I’ve learnt so much about marketing, filming and branding”.
We love getting lovely feedback from our amazing team of volunteers. Recently, one of our office-based volunteers remarked, “Being a volunteer has motivated me and helped me gain new skills that I carried over to my professional life. The CYP team are also really friendly and supportive!”. It goes without saying, but we are so grateful for all our volunteers’ work.
