CYP members Albi, Caelan and Reggie have been off to camp this summer! The ‘Build Yourself’ summer residential camp is designed by Wates to give young people an exciting deep dive into the construction industry; encouraging them to develop the necessary skills to start a great career. Focus is placed on fostering personal growth in a supportive environment, and to support young people in getting work ready through team building, career workshops, project and interpersonal development.

The week-long residential camp was busy with activities such as zip lining, high ropes & slides, but also included classroom activities as well as time with the dedicated Early Careers Team. The team talked through opportunities in the construction sector, CV skills and provided useful hints and tips for applying for jobs or early career programmes.

During the week, the boys also took part in various workshops. Albi & Reggie were part of a team that constructed a house from scratch, while Caelan participated in a marketing session selling homes on a housing development to different groups that were target audiences.
Following on from the camp, Albi and Caelan will be doing work experience in electrical engineering with Wates in the coming weeks. After two weeks of this work experience, they will begin getting paid as they get to learn more about Wates and what career paths in the construction industry will best suit them.
