As we settle into September, we’re taking a moment to reflect on what an amazing and action-packed summer we had here at CYP. From creative workshops to outdoor adventures, lots of football, this summer was one for the books, filled with fun, learning, and unforgettable experiences.
One of the highlights was our weekly Girls’ Podcast sessions, where young women came together to learn the ins and outs of podcasting. From brainstorming topics to mastering the mic, the sessions helped build confidence and creative skills. It was inspiring to see their voices amplified in such a dynamic way, with many participants eager to continue producing their own shows!

We also hosted weekly DJ workshops that had our young people spinning beats and learning what it truly takes to be a DJ. It was more than just mixing tracks; they explored the hard work and dedication behind making music that moves people. By the end of the summer, the young people were already asking for more sessions – who knows, maybe the next big DJ will come straight out of CYP!
Our weekly Cooking Club added a delicious twist to the summer by tying in with the excitement of the Euros football championship. Each week, our young people cooked up new dishes while following the tournament’s progress. It was a great way to combine food, football, and fun!

A group of young people also had the chance to attend the We Out Here music festival. From live performances to discovering new genres, it was an exciting opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of music and culture. The festival sparked creativity and left lasting memories for all who attended.
We also had two major trips that took our summer to the next level; Snow Camp and a day trip to Wales.
In a CYP-first, young people attended ‘Snow Camp’ – a charity that aims to turn young lives around through the power of snowsports .One of our participants shared their experience:
“Snow Camp was an exciting and interesting experience, as I had zero prior experience, so I enjoyed the challenges along the way. Thanks to CYP, I was able to further my knowledge and now have the opportunity to continue developing my skills, potentially leading to an apprenticeship. I had no clue what doors it could open, and I’m glad I went as I had a very pleasant time.”
Our grand finale for the summer was a day trip to Wales. One young person even said “Wales was another very memorable trip provided by CYP. I had been to the waterfall before but couldn’t say no to another opportunity. This time was even better than the last, as we learned from our previous experience and made it an even more enjoyable trip. I would definitely recommend it and hope CYP gets another chance to take more people next time.”

As we move into autumn, we’re still buzzing from the energy and excitement of the summer. The range of activities we offered helped our young people explore new passions, develop valuable skills, and create lasting friendships. From the thrill of DJ’ing and podcasting to the unforgettable trips and experiences, this summer was nothing short of amazing.
A huge thank you to everyone who participated and supported our summer programme. Here’s to more incredible opportunities as we continue to empower and inspire young people at CYP!
