We’re thrilled to announce that Copenhagen Youth Project has been awarded £19,986 from The National Lottery Community Fund to support our new initiative, Breaking Bread, Building Bonds!
This generous grant is a huge step forward in helping us support young people in Islington through our expanded Cooking Club – a programme designed to build life skills, strengthen social bonds, and combat food insecurity in our community.
What Is Breaking Bread, Building Bonds?
At its heart, this project is about far more than food.
Over the next 18 months, 60 young people aged 16–25—many of whom are facing financial hardship—will gain vital skills in cooking, nutrition, and teamwork. Through shared meals and collaborative cooking sessions, participants will not only learn how to prepare healthy meals on a budget but also build friendships, confidence, and community.
In a time when the cost of living crisis is hitting young people hard—causing increased food insecurity, rising utility costs, and widespread social isolation—we’ve seen a 25% rise in demand for our services. Young people are telling us they feel forgotten, anxious, and alone. One participant said, “You’re not living, you’re just surviving.”
This project is our response.
A big thank you to The National Lottery Community Fund for helping us make this happen! The young people are already enjoying the sessions, and we all love sharing the food that’s being dished up.
